Texas newcomer Stem Wind Energy plans to build 800MW of wind farms on two sites in the state’s Panhandle. Land options and turbine negotiations are well advanced. The Dallas company has been conducting meteorological tests and holding talks with landowners since forming in 2006, said principal and co-owner Matthew Anderson.
What we have accomplished
- Leased a considerate amount of acreage for the development of Grasslands I.
- Completed 15 months of wind testing regarding the wind power, speed, temperature, and direction on the Grasslands I site.
- Successfully applied with Southwest Power Pool for the authorization to deliver wind-generated electricity to the power grid they manage.
- Formed extremely important relationships with various entities that will allow us to continue to move Grasslands I forward with confidence.
- Have been approached by a larger late-stage wind developer whom has asked to partner with STEM Wind Energy in efforts to develop and build Grasslands I through a very strong Joint Venture.
What we need to accomplish
- Continue to lease additional acreage in order to maximize the potential of the land that will be included in Grasslands I.
- Work closely and collectively with County officials to ensure Grasslands I is a project they are interested in and appreciate.
- Strengthen our relationships with all our current landowner participants and any landowners who will take the step to become part of Grasslands I in the future.
- Complete the process with Southwest Power Pool to ensure maximized potential of Grasslands I.
The test tower is up and we are happy to announce the wind power has been remarkable!
